Collagen for Postpartum Recovery

Postpartum is a time of rest and repair.  Mamas deal with hormone fluctuations, fatigue and the massive task of adjusting to a new role. With life feeling like a whirlwind, mama needs all the recovery help she can get.

Collagen from pasture-raised cows is made up of amino acids which are essential for tissue rebuilding after pregnancy. Collagen can be especially beneficial postpartum because it helps rebuild connective tissues such as skin and joints. This can help reduce joint pain and improve skin elasticity. In addition to supporting joint and skin rejuvenation, collagen can also help boost energy levels. This is due to the fact that it helps support healthy metabolism by providing important amino acids that are necessary for energy production.

At mama meals we cook our recipes in bone broth (which helps promote tissue repair and recovery postpartum) and we use BioOptimal collagen powder in both our Oatmeal Congees. Why BioOptimal? The Organic Consumers Association published a whitepaper detailing the testing of 28 different collagen brands and sounded the alarm on many of them containing heavy metals like, lead, cadmium, and mercury.

Yikes.

We went with BioOptimal because they showed ZERO trace of heavy metals.
