Ayurvedic Vata-Balancing Snack Bites: Easy Recipe for Postpartum Recovery

In the delicate postpartum period, nourishing your body with the right foods is essential. These Ayurvedic Vata-Balancing Snack Bites offer the perfect blend of nourishment and taste, making them an ideal choice for new mothers. Made with soaked nuts, dates, toasted coconut, and sesame seeds, these snack bites are not only delicious but also easy to digest, helping you stay grounded and energized during postpartum recovery.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almonds (soaked overnight and peeled)
  • 5-6 Medjool dates (soaked in warm water for 1 hour and peeled)
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder
  • 2 tbsp Goji berries (soaked)
  • A pinch of saffron threads (optional)
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Nuts and Dates:

  • Soak the almonds overnight, then drain and peel them to reduce digestion issues.
  • Soak the Medjool dates in warm water for 1 hour to soften them, then peel for a smoother texture that’s easier on digestion.

2. Toast the Coconut and Sesame Seeds:

  • In a small pan, warm 1 tablespoon of ghee over medium heat. Add shredded coconut and toast until golden and aromatic. Set aside.
  • In the same pan, lightly toast sesame seeds until they become golden and start to pop. Set aside.

3. Blend the Ingredients:

  • In a food processor, pulse the soaked almonds until you get a coarse mixture.
  • Add soaked, peeled dates and blend until the mixture is sticky and holds together when pressed.
  • Melt the remaining ghee in a small pan, stir in cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and nutmeg powders, and cook until the spices release their fragrance.
  • Pour the spiced ghee into the nut and date mixture in the food processor. Add the toasted coconut, sesame seeds, saffron, Goji berries (if using), and a pinch of salt. Pulse until everything is well combined.

4. Form the Snack Balls:

  • Scoop small portions of the mixture and roll into bite-sized balls with your hands.
  • Optionally, roll the balls in any remaining toasted coconut or sesame seeds for added texture.

5. Store and Serve:

  • Place the snack balls on a plate or tray and let them chill in the refrigerator for up to 30 minutes to firm up.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. These snack bites will keep for up to a week.
