Our Commitment to Sustainability and Regeneration

Happy Earth Day, mamas!

As many of you know, we’re in the middle of an exciting transition – Mama Meals is growing into Restorative Roots! It’s more than just a new name. It’s a reflection of our mission to nourish people while healing the land. And on this Earth Day, I want to share three ways we’re honoring the land on this Earth Day.

Three ways Restorative Roots strives to be the most sustainable meal prep company

Three ways Restorative Roots strives to be the most sustainable meal prep company

1. We package with plants

Our Postpartum freezer meals come in compostable bamboo containers, which are seriously amazing. They’re sturdy enough to hold your nutrient-dense postpartum meals, but gentle on the Earth. Bamboo grows crazy fast and doesn’t need pesticides or replanting, which makes it a superstar packaging material.

If you didn’t know, we just launched a new weekly fresh meal prep line which delivers nationwide!  One of the areas for improvement we have with this new offering is the packaging.

Currently the fresh lines come in a vacuum-sealed plastic container, but we’ve found a compostable bamboo option we plan to test in the next month after the dust settles from the launch, so stay tuned!

We use dry ice for frozen shipments

2. We use dry ice for frozen shipments

Everyone knows those bulky cold gel packs. At Restorative Roots, we use dry ice, which magically evaporates (actually called sublimation) into the air as it keeps your food frozen. It’s carbon dioxide in solid form, and once it does its job, poof! No waste. No cleanup. Just frozen postpartum food in your freezer.

Our biggest love letter to the planet: Regenerative Agriculture

3. Our biggest love letter to the planet: Regenerative Agriculture

This is where my heart really swells. We partner with some of the most inspiring farms and producers in the country – Force of Nature (MAMAMEALS10), Greener Pastures (MamaMeals15), Castor River Habitat & Farm (MAMAMEALS), Ralston Family Farms, and more – who are leading the charge in regenerative agriculture.

What does that mean? In short: they’re not just avoiding harm to the Earth – they’re actively healing it. These farms focus on rebuilding topsoil, increasing biodiversity, capturing carbon, and restoring fertility to the land. Cows are rotated to mimic wild herds. Cover crops protect and enrich the soil. Trees and native plants bring back pollinators and wildlife.

And here’s the goosebump part: healthy, fertile soil = healthy, fertile people. When we eat from land that’s alive and thriving, our bodies feel it. Our hormones, energy, and even our mood are all supported by nutrient-dense food grown in rich, living soil.

As a mom, this matters deeply to me. I want to leave a world to my kids that’s more beautiful, more abundant, and more resilient than the one I was born into. That’s what Restorative Roots is all about.

So this Earth Day, we invite you to celebrate with us. Whether you’re eating our meals, planting a garden, or just walking barefoot in the grass—know that every small act of love for the Earth counts.

With gratitude and the planet in our hearts,
The Restorative Roots fam
